PDF Creator - Product Review

PDF Creator is another program that takes the difficulty and guesswork out of using Adobe's traditional PDF generating software. And it's much smaller than Adobe's Acrobat® 8 too - in both size and cost! Adobe's Acrobat® 8 is much larger and more expensive than PDF Creator, yet those qualities aren't what makes it a viable tool.

PDF Creator will create PDF files from any printable document. This includes your word processor documents, spreadsheets, presentations, emails, web sites, and even graphics files. As a "virtual printer", the program works from your program's 'print' or 'file' menu, and it captures anything sent to the printer as PDF-appropriate content.

One of the benefits of converting your work to PDF of course is its portability. PDF files open on any machine including Macs and Linux machines. PDF files even work on mobile phones, smart phones, PDA's, laptops, IBM AIX, HP-UX, OS/2, and more. It truly pushes "cross-platform" to a whole new level while retaining a simple "cross-cultural" interface that we all can understand.

We tested how well PDF Creator handled a PowerPoint presentation full of graphic rich slides. The end result was a single PDF file generated in less than a minute. Each and every slide in our presentation sat on it's own PDF page, and all graphics were in place and appropriately scaled. We even tested how well PDF Creator handled our spreadsheets, and we were again, impressed with the results. PDF Creator truly does perform as advertised. Anything we could send to the printer - PDF Creator adequately converted into an PDF file.

We also noticed PDF Creator's adequacy in securing its output. With this program, we could password protect our PDF documents and further restrict access to printing, copying, and modification. Setting specific user permissions and passwords gave us the opportunity to control 'who' could do 'what' with our files. We could determine whether our file would print in low res for example. We could determine whether our file would fit in a screen reader or whether our file would accept form input.

When it was all said and done, we knew this was a product worth recommending without qualm. PDF Creator words on Microsoft Windows 98(SE),ME,2000,2003,XP or Vista but it does requires 28 MB of hard disk space. Download your trial version here.
