Using a file recovery utility is an absolute must in almost any environment. From casual home use all the way to the place of employment, no computer would be completely protected from accidental (or purposeful) deletions unless one of it's folders stored a recovery program.
To recover deleted files in the past, we usually had to consult a recovering specialist -- a costly consequence for sure. Fortunately, we no longer have to endure this expense today because more and more programs are proving effective in retrieving deletions. WUndelete is one of those programs.
WUndelete identifies file fragments on a computer's hard drive, and it presents the fragments that are still intact. These are fragments that Windows can't find and thus describes as non-existent. WUndelete however will restore any file that hasn't been overwritten and recover it to 100% functionality.
Our use of the program went fairly smooth and we were able to recover files 'permanently' deleted over the past three weeks. A few of the files we retrieved were overwritten (it's inevitable), however WUndelete reconstructed a large portion of them. So what we thought was completely destroyed, was actually unusable thanks to this program.
One of the unique things about this program is that we didn't need to pre-installed it first. A LOT of recovery programs requires pre-installation so that it can keep a record of deleted files and where they've been placed. The problem with those types of programs is that they consume a lot of resources.
WUndelete stands out from the rest in that regard, but it still comes with all the standard 'undelete' amenities. WUndelete recovers files from IDE / ATA / SATA / SCSI hard disk drives, removable devices (SmartMedia, Secure Digital, MemorySticks, etc.), and internal and external ZIP drives and USB Hard drives. FAT, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5 , NTFS + EFS file systems are supported and the program works on Windows 98 / ME / Windows XP / 2003 Server / Vista operating Systems.
WUndelete also supports basic and dynamic Volume drives, local or network drives, compressed, fragmented and encrypted files on NTFS, and localized and long filenames. File and disk size does not appear to be an issue, as the program can recover files too big for the Recycle Bin and it can work on large hard drives beyond 200 GB.
Download a copy of WUndelete yourself and see if you don't come to the same conclusion that we did.
