EvidenceNuker - Product Review

Not many people are aware of the numerous traces their computers leave behind. Fact is - computers can't help but leave little "usage footsteps" everywhere because of the way that they're built. And unless you're using a PC that doesn't store anything, your computer not only stores data -- it stores traceable data.

In order for a computer to operate, it has to allocate some of its resources toward storage. With Windows, we have three main storage areas: files, the hard drive, and the computer's memory. To optimize usage, Windows stores the files and programs we load into its memory while it periodically saves the things that we're working on in temporary files. Although this strategy speeds things up, it puts us at risk since the data inside memory and temporary files are vulnerable to prying eyes. This is what makes file deletion utilities critical. A true file deletion utility will delete traces of computer activity and remove the chance for things like identity theft.

We looked at a file deletion utility called EvidenceNuker to see how well it protected the data that our computers stored on a regular basis. What we found was a competent tool capable of deleting our address bar history, browser cache, visited sites' history, and cookies. It removed data stored in our browser's autocomplete data function, documents history, and Recycle Bin. And it also removed information from our computer's run history and search/find history.

Since even the most amateur of hackers can access our browser cache, we were comforted in knowing that this program went beyond our expectations. Its free scan gave us a glimpse at our current list of deleted files, emails, chat transcripts, audio and video files, temporary internet files, image files, search histories, clipboard data, passwords, internet history, stored cookies and more. And we had the option of removing data via the Department of Defense (DOD 5220.22-M standard) deletion process or the Guttman scientific deletion process. We chose to experiment with both methods, but did not notice a significance difference between the two. Both methods seemed to do the job equally well.

We are therefore confident in recommending this product to our audience. Protect your investment by downloading a copy and just trying it once. A single run should be all it takes to appreciate this program's strength and ability to protect your personal information.
