In the past few years, PC security has grown into one of the most widely discussed subjects among computer professionals and the message is always the same: Strengthen PC Security. Any computer that’s connected to the Internet is exposed to any number of threats that unfortunately increase at a dangerous rate. But what’s equally disturbing is the number of networks that aren’t protected at all.

Can you imagine the mess we’d be in if businesses like Paypal, Google, or the three major credit reporting agencies didn’t secure their servers? Yikes! We shudder at the thought since their websites are probably attacked on a daily basis — unsuccessfully of course, but attacked none-the-less. Fortunately, they’ve protected networks with anti-spyware, anti-adware, and anti-virus software. They’ve additionally installed firewalls strong enough to resist these attacks.

Note that you don’t need a large customer base to be at risk. Even the small, “Mom & Pop” online business is vulnerable to hacking and there are plenty of real-world examples to prove it — all of which demonstrate vulnerability to cyber-crimes.
